As development expands into wildlife habitats, the configuration of buildings—not just their presence—can limit animal movement. To address this, I helped develop a novel GIS method and web-based tool that measures the narrowest space, or "width," between buildings across a landscape. This metric helps identify where development may create barriers to movement, especially for migrating or wintering ungulates.
